Switch Bit Saros Review

May 9, 2026
If you loved Returnal, then Saros is probably gonna click with you immediately. It basically takes everything Returnal nailed gameplay-wise and just cranks it up. Movement still feels super smooth and aggressive, combat is fast and chaotic, and there’s a ton more room to actually build your character the way you want. The new shield mechanics and absorb systems add a really satisfying layer to combat where you can play way more offensively without it feeling cheap. One of the coolest parts is how much stronger you can become over the course of a run. Messing with modifiers and tweaking builds is addictive, and the progression loop feels incredibly rewarding. There’s this constant “one more run” energy because you always feel like you’re unlocking some new ridiculous combination that changes how you approach fights. Where it doesn’t hit quite as hard as Returnal is the atmosphere and mystery. Returnal had this creepy, lonely vibe where everything felt unsettling and unknown. Saros is a lot more direct with its story, and honestly, a little too in-your-face sometimes. The NPCs also feel weirdly unfinished compared to everything else. They’ve got that awkward “video game mannequin” energy where they sway around too much and make exaggerated facial expressions that pull you out of the moment. But honestly? Once you’re back in combat, none of that matters much. The point-to-point gameplay is so good that it carries the whole experience. If Returnal was about surviving, Saros feels more about mastering the systems and becoming absurdly powerful, and that part absolutely rules.
