yokang Trek to Yomi Review

Nov 30, 2025
On one hand, Trek to Yomi is a visually stunning game. I have to be honest -- I really enjoyed the backgrounds, the scenes... all those immersive visuals, I loved them. And of course, the cinematic music doesn't fall behind -- it perfectly completes the atmosphere, especially with the black-and-white filter. Speaking of that, I get the artistic choice behind the monochrome look, but sometimes... you just wanna see some color, you know? Now, on the gameplay side -- I played for an hour, and honestly, it felt a bit outdated and simplistic for a katana/samurai game. The movements are kind of stiff, and it all boils down to the same "parry/block/attack" cycle over and over, even after unlocking new weapons. It's not that i don't like the game -- I really appreciate the focus on visuals and sound -- but I just expected a little more from the gameplay. It looks and sounds amazing, but when it comes to actually playing it... it kind of falls short. But in the end I think it could be worth the five hours of gameplay it has to offer. K.Y.
