There’s a lot to like about Unknown 9: Awakening and I’m glad I played it. The story and characters are among the best of the year, and the skills Haroona possesses and stealth gameplay has it’s moments. Ultimately though the game is held back by its weightless combat and outdated graphics. If Bandai ever gives the franchise another chance there truly is enough here to build upon, but I fear this might be a one and done situation. That said, if you are looking for a game with a great story to connect with like I do, you can absolutely find that in Unknown 9. If you are someone who puts gameplay above all else though, you will likely want to look elsewhere.
Ultimately Aaero2 hit most of the boxes you’d want from a sequel to a successful game. It’s built on the foundation that was laid and made the experience that much more enjoyable. With a great soundtrack and improved shooting mechanics riding the beat has never felt more enjoyable. With the added co-op mode you can turn it into an enjoyable concert for two. Outside of the strange decision to make everyone invincible in multiplayer and a few minor hiccups elsewhere, Aaero2 is worthy of your attention.
Dustborn ultimately left me with mixed feelings. It’s excellent cast and voice acting mixed with a solid story is just what I hope for in an adventure game, however its ho-hum combat and annoying interruptions in the dialogue hold it back from being great.
