Brad Goodwin's Reviews
Despite some minor flaws, Bramble: The Mountain King is an entertaining and well-crafted addition to Dimfrost Studio’s portfolio which will tickle that itch of any horror fan.
Black Salt Games have ‘dredged’ up a surprise Game of the Year contender through the use of engaging mechanics, an atmospherically-rich world, and some of the most rewarding progression you’ll find in a game. While the main story is compact, the amount of side content available to sail through makes it well worth the price tag.
Resident Evil’s formula has been perfected in this outstanding remake of 2005’s Resident Evil 4 with revitalised gameplay while still remaining true to the original game. If Resident Evil 4 is CAPCOM’s new benchmark for a Resident Evil game, I can’t wait to see where the franchise goes next.
Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a casual yet meaningful addition to the Bayonetta universe. PlatinumGames has crafted a beautiful and charming story that showcases Cereza in a different light, which will allow players to fall in love with her all over again.
Scars Above has been a pleasant surprise that has cemented an already fantastic year in gaming. While it has its shortcomings with it’s uninspired story and weak world-building, it redeems itself with its fun and engaging gameplay.
SEASON: A letter to the future is a poetic and wholesome experience with a narrative beautifully told through unique gameplay mechanics. Cycling across the beautiful landscapes of this broken world was a pleasure and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Scavengers Studio.
Recent years have spoiled gamers with exceptional horror game remakes such as The Last of Us Part I and Resident Evil 2 and 3. Dead Space continues this trend by bringing a legendary horror game back onto our screens with an immense amount of polish and craftsmanship. Motive Studio have delivered a terrifying and intense experience that old and new fans alike will be talking about for a long time.
Mojiken Studio has set a high bar for Indie games in 2023, with its near-perfect storytelling and beautifully illustrated world, A Space for the Unbound is a must-play for anyone looking for a captivating, unique, and cat-filled coming-of-age story.
Before Your Eyes is an emotional and essential PlayStation VR2 experience with a heavy impact that will stay with you for years to come. GoodbyeWorld Games has masterfully crafted a unique VR experience that will set a benchmark for story-driven games in the virtual reality space.
Evil West delivers an intoxicating experience with its electrifying combat and engaging, well-paced story. The new IP is reminiscent of an older generation of action games but feels modern and refreshing compared to other action games of today.
Despite worrying performance issues and graphics, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is a large leap forward for the Pokémon franchise. The many additions to the gameplay make this iteration one of the most reinvigorated and entertaining Pokémon games to date.
The Devil In Me is another entertaining addition and finale to the first season of The Dark Pictures Anthology. While the story’s ending may be more predictable than others, it still delivers an enjoyable and captivating experience for players to enjoy solo or with friends.
Santa Monica Studios deliver an action-packed and emotional journey that includes everything you would ever want in a video game. The exemplary performances of the cast, innovative gameplay mechanics, and masterful storytelling make God of War Ragnarök one of the best games in the 21st century.
The Chant is a hidden gem among some big releases in November, one that may be overlooked by many. The unique story and gameplay mechanics, accompanied by the quirks of a classic horror film make this experience a one-of-a-kind that should be enjoyed by all survival-horror fans. I can’t wait to see what Brass Token’s next venture will be.
While Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion didn’t expand on the story as much as I would’ve liked, it was still a thrilling addition to the Winters’ saga. The many gameplay additions and the return to the most beloved locations of the base game make this a DLC worthy of purchase.
Infinity Ward has won me over with its delivery of a captivating Campaign mode and fun multiplayer. While no risks were taken with this iteration of COD, it was a tactical decision made to return the franchise to form.
Beacon Pines is a wonderfully crafted adventure game with a twisted yet heartwarming story. The way the narrative is told is extremely captivating in a way I haven’t experienced before. I’m excited to see what Hiding Spot games are able to achieve if they keep expanding on this storybook-adventure genre that they’ve pioneered.
Ghost Pattern has delivered an experience like no other. The complexity of the simultaneous narratives that unfold around you in real-time creates a beautiful experience that should be played by all gamers. I can’t wait to see what is next on the horizon for Ghost Pattern.
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part I is a legendary remake of a legendary game. Any new or returning players will find this game to be an emotional and action-packed journey which will continue to stand the test of time.
We Are OFK is a delightful game that instantly welcomes you into the band, OFK. While not the most interactive experience, the game holds a triple threat that is the narrative, visuals and music. Team OFK should be proud of what they have made here and I’m genuinely excited to see what they work on next.
