From a gameplay perspective, Remnant 2 is polished enough to remain consistently engaging on a purely tactile level. There’s always plenty to keep your fingers busy, and learning to make the most of your chosen class quickly becomes essential.

The pixel art is solid, with some particularly impressive highlights—especially when it depicts colossal entities that seem to belong to fallen gods. At times, however, it feels as though the art direction becomes a little complacent, causing the game to lose some of its stylistic consistency.

The problem isn’t so much the shaky suspension of disbelief or the ludonarrative dissonance that stems from it, but rather the glaring inconsistency in the game’s overall intent. You never really get to live the Hogwarts student experience or feel the day-to-day life of a student, which is particularly problematic in a title that should, above all else, strive to capture that very feeling.
