The real question, though, is whether or not DQB is worth playing at all. It’s hard for me to recommend it to anyone who already enjoys these types of games, but if you’re just getting into city-builders and ARPGs, I suppose this would be a nice primer for what to expect from other titles. Even then, for the $60 USD pricepoint, I’d advise one to wait until it goes on sale.

While it does have its fair share of issues, many of which frustrated me greatly, I still think it's a solid, enjoyable title. Warhammer fans will have a lot to sink their teeth into, and Left 4 Dead fans will have something to fiddle with until the next iteration. Well…if Valve ever learns how to count to 3, that is.

9.8 / 10.0 - Undertale

I found myself smiling through a majority of my time with this game, unable to put it down until I'd beaten it. For only $10 USD (or your regional equivalent) on Steam, it's hard not to recommend at least giving it a try. For me, it might just be my game of the year.

If you're a MGS purist, buy it on sale. If you're simply looking for an engaging stealth/action experience, you'd be doing yourself a major disservice if you steered clear of The Phantom Pain.

So, should you buy Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance? Well, if you're already a fan of the series, I'm sure you knew you were going to purchase this the moment it was announced. However, if you're just getting into strategy RPGs, I'd still recommend Disgaea 1 over this title.

All in all, it's hard to find much to complain about in Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold. A competent story, engrossing and deep gameplay, lovely artwork/graphics, and a divine soundtrack are a few things to look forward to when purchasing this game. There are a few minor hangups, mainly the lack of dual-audio, (and the fact that day-one DLC might upset some folks out there) but as a whole, Untold 2 is without a doubt one of the best games on the 3DS right now.

Overall, it's hard to find much to hate about Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker. The combat is satisfying and complex. The story is deep, with rich characters, and a plot that you actually change with your decisions throughout the game. The demon fusion system is improved over that of the previous entry in the Devil Survivor series, and the exclusive features that come with the new version give it much more content than the vanilla game. If you're looking for a quality RPG to sink a hundred or so hours into, and you own a 3DS, buy this game.

7 / 10.0 - Alien: Isolation
Dec 9, 2014

Alien: Isolation is a frightening, atmospheric experience, and a perfect example of how to properly adapt an Alien game. However, it is not without its pitfalls. Abysmal pacing, a thin plot, bugs aplenty, and a frustrating save system are just a few of the many snags in an otherwise faithful representation of the franchise as a whole. Even with those drawbacks, I'd recommend A:I wholeheartedly to fans of horror, or devotees of the series. If you're not either of those things, however, you may find more aggravation than fun in the 15-20 hours of gameplay the game has to offer.

If you have a 3DS, and you like RPGs, you should buy Persona Q. If you've played any previous Persona games and liked them, buying Persona Q should be a no-brainer. If you hate RPGs, and by extension fun itself, I'm not sure why you're even reading this.

So, is Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited a game worth picking up? Absolutely. If you’re a Disgaea fan, you probably already own it on the PS3. I will say that even if you do, you might want to pick it up on the Vita, since it’s quite honestly the definitive way to play the game. Disgaea lends itself incredibly well to a handheld console, and with the additional content and polishing, I can’t recommend it enough.

8 / 10.0 - Space Run
Jul 25, 2014

So, do I think Space Run is worth your time and money? If you want a fun, engaging tower defense game with a good story, and above average voice acting, then yes, I think it's worth the paltry 15 USD pricetag. It has some problems, but they don't keep it from being a solid title.

9 / 10.0 - Transistor
May 28, 2014

Is Transistor worth your time? Well, I'm here to say that yes, it absolutely is. Stunning visuals, heart-breaking but well-written narrative (with a few rushed bits here and there), brilliant sound design, and a fun and rewarding battle system are some of the things you'll be signing up for if you purchase this game. And for a paltry twenty dollar pricetag (or your regional equivalent), you could do a hell of a lot worse. Transistor is a moody, atmospheric, tragic love story, and it's absolutely wonderful. A few pitfalls keep it from being perfect, but I'd still recommend it to anyone who loves games.
