If you need a decent party game on the Nintendo Switch, it's worth considering Just Dance 2017.
Link's latest adventure isn't without its wrinkles thanks to unnecessary padding, an annoying durability system, and odd difficulty. In the face of the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn, The Witcher 3, and even Final Fantasy XV, it comes off a bit short.
It's a solid effort from Ubisoft. There's something for everyone and while it rarely excels at all of them, it manages to be a surprisingly engaging game. The overarching structure is overwrought and its fiction is one-sided but that means little when you're crashing helicopters into unsuspecting cartel outposts while your friends detonate copious amounts of explosives.
By genre, you could say that Nier: Automata is an action role-playing game. But the reality is that it's a whole lot more.

With a single-player campaign lasting around 15 hours, and multiplayer to follow, Halo Wars 2 is yet another solid entry in the franchise. Its minor problems do little to make this worth checking out for fans and newcomers alike.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is for the hardcore fans only, and that too, not at full price. And if you’re a series newbie, you’re best of waiting for the remasters of the first couple of games, which are going to be out in March.
On the surface, Nioh is a compelling take on a sub genre of role-playing games created by the Souls games and its ilk. However by putting stamina at the core of its combat and thoughtfully borrowing mechanics from other titles, it results in a game that’s greater than the sum of its parts. Whether you’re a Souls veteran or have a passing interest in such games, Nioh is well worth checking out.
Yakuza 0 is an easy recommendation for PS4 and PS4 Pro owners alike. A strong story, activities aplenty, and solid core combat, it’s the perfect start to gaming in 2017. Essential for PS4 owners and for the rest, a perfect reason to get one.
Steep is only worth bothering with if you’re really itching for some extreme sports flavoured gaming on the PS4, Xbox One, or PC. For everyone else, your patience might be rewarded with a better (and likely cheaper) game months later.
If you have the bandwidth or are able to import Dead Rising 4, it’s well worth the hassle. Otherwise you’re better off waiting until it’s cheaper or available offline.
Touching on themes such as companionship and trust, The Last Guardian's tale is minimally delivered and powerful. Without spoiling much, it will be a topic of debate for years to come.
Is Final Fantasy XV everything it ought to be? For fans, yes. Without question, this is the Final Fantasy game you've been waiting for. That's actually surprising given how tumultuous its decade-long development as been. For first-timers, it depends how tolerant you are of narrative failings. Look past that, and you're treated to fantastic moment to moment gameplay, and an intricate set of systems that will have you coming back for more.
With amazing moment to moment gameplay and great level design, Dishonored 2 is worth checking out provided you have the means to play it. Dishonored 2 iterates and innovates in equal measure, resulting in an almost addictive quality to the proceedings that few can match.
With a wealth of gameplay options and a welcome degree of freedom, Watch Dogs 2 is a stellar entry in Ubisoft’s open-world hacking franchise. Minor technical and narrative concerns aside, there’s no reason for you not to check out one of the better games of this year.
As it stands, Infinite Warfare is a mixed affair. The single-player is entertaining enough to keep well worn gameplay mechanics from getting stale, while the multiplayer and monetisation model are glaring points of concern.
Titanfall 2 brings some much needed improvements to its predecessor but lengthy matchmaking, questionable multiplayer additions, and the removal of some features considered intrinsic to the franchise make it tough to recommend. Pick it up after a price drop.
If you've not played Skyrim before, then you this remaster is a solid option. Everyone else should hold off until a price drop.
All said and done, Battlefield 1 is slick, fresh entry in a franchise that helped pioneer the first-person military shooter genre. World War I has been thought of as the dawn of modern warfare and Battlefield 1 sets the standard of what to expect.
