Prison City is a fun game that nails the look and feel of 80's action platformers. For fans of that era, this is a no-brainer. Now, for the sequel, I'm hoping for an Echo the Dolphin parody featuring that cybernetic cetacean.
D&DK is a fun time if you're of the right age and in the right mindset. It can be frustrating, but those frustrations are bizarrely part of the charm. And hey, it's kind of fun to play a "lost" NES game that actually feels like it could've come out in 1989.
Trine: Enchanted Edition is a good game, well made and competent, but not necessarily for me. I can appreciate what it has accomplished, but its slow, methodical brand of puzzle platforming and the "meh" combat leave me wanting.
Overall, Fate/Extella is a fairly simplistic Warriors-style game with a visual novel component and pretty enough graphics. I was impressed that there's never any slowdown, either in tabletop mode or on the TV. As I said, there's already a better Warriors game on the Wii U and 3DS, but so far this is the best one on Switch. If you like anime nonsense and slaughtering robots, you could do worse than Fate/Extella.
As an introduction to Pinball FX3, the Jurassic Park tables have been wonderful and provided an excellent reminder of how much I enjoy video game pinball. They're not perfect (what pinball table is?) but I really enjoyed them.
To my eternal shame, I do not.
Despite my misgivings with our royal protagonist’s moveset, King of Cards is an excellent cap on what’s become a downright amazing collection of games.
SNK Gals’ Fighter is a fantastic little game.
I enjoyed King of Fighters R-2, mostly for historical purposes. It's interesting to see KOF gameplay shrunken down and still very playable, and the Chibi aesthetic works, somehow. Samurai Shodown isn't for me, but I sure hope that this series continues.
Once I got the hang of drifting, I really started enjoying Hotshot Racing, but it will not sustain me as a solo player for long. Its utility (for me) will be multiplayer shenanigans, which is just fine.
undefined.The usual bells and whistles are here, including a digitized manual, different NGPC skins, and a rewind feature. As in the previous games, there's a distinct lack of a moves list, so you'll have to resort to repeatedly opening the manual, writing things down, or going to GameFAQs. Being able to play with a friend on a single system is nice, though, although The Last Blade won't give you the multiplayer mileage than Smash Bros. does. The Last Blade is fun, and another good NGPC game to add to your list.
Despite the game's AI issues, Never Alone is definitely worth playing—maybe with another person. It's a very short game and can be finished in two or three sessions. But it's the educational aspect that I appreciated most, and I imagine you will, too.
ASM2 is still a good game at its core, with some improvements over the original, but they really botched the Hero/Menace element.
The Fall is a relatively short game, just a few hours long depending on how many puzzles stump you. The story is the most engaging thing, providing a unique take on the Three Laws of Robotics (although the laws themselves have been changed). There are really only three characters, but they're all well developed
Batman: Arkham Origins: Blackgate Deluxe Edition is both fun and frustrating—exactly the kind of game I don't like reviewing. If you can focus on the parts that work (exploration, collectibles) and downplay the stuff that doesn't (the map, the combat), you'll have a good time. I can't recommend this to people who already played it on Vita or 3DS, though—unless you really loved it, it's probably not worth the double-dip.
My feelings echo Zach’s full review above: if you’re someone who adored Mutant Mudds, Super Challenge might be up your alley. That’s really the only use case here, though. Newcomers should go play the original, and after that, if the original was too easy for your liking, check out Super Challenge.
However, the problems Bunnylord faces are the same as any other character. It feels wrong to end this review on such a tired phrase, but your mileage may vary regarding Not a Hero. I enjoyed it but it didn't grab me like similar games such as Mercenary Kings did. If you like comically-violent, pixelated shooters, you might try this out, but I suspect it's playing to a crowd that doesn't necessarily include me.
Dragon Fantasy: Tome of Ice is a good game, made with heart, but I just didn’t find it very engaging. The whole thing feels kind of vanilla, with the exception of the writing. I suspect your mileage will vary based on how much of a fan you are of SNES-era RPGs. With a few exceptions, it’s not an era I yearn to relive, so I didn’t get much out of the game.
However, the game is addictive in its own charming way and it's something I've popped on once and awhile ever since it originally came out on 3DS. If you have any nostalgia for Cannon Ball/Pang/Buster Bros., Pirate Pop Plus is a welcome addition to your crew.
In general, I think the Bethesda tables will appeal largely to Bethesda fans. However, the Doom table should be enjoyable to most pinball aficionados, and I daresay it alone is worth the price of admission.
