8.5 / 10.0 - Sakura Wars

An extremely polished, well put together sequel in a long running franchise that old fans and newcomers will enjoy. Its slow pace won't be for everyone but it's an enjoyable time from start to finish.

A solid expansion that brings a lot of new toys to play with and mission variations to play in. The campaign is a fun exploration of a pivotal time in Mechwarrior lore. If you own Mechwarrior 5 you should own this.

A fantastic addition that gives an excellent reason to revisit this great beat 'em up. The difficulty is definitely a challenge, but for fans, this is a no-brainer!

Some slight technical issues occasionally hamper what is a solid Mass Effect entry. Fun, dynamic combat, some great missions and an interesting new setting provide an enjoyable place to get lost and spend some time in. It does sometimes feel like a “Mass Effect Greatest Hits” but there are worse things to be.

Skyrim is still a great place to get lost in and the visual upgrade is welcome. It perhaps doesn’t go as far as it should and it’s a shame no other aspect of the game got looked at but it’s still well worth your time.

An interesting real time take on tower defence that is well put together and is always entertaining. The difficulty might be too much for some but it’s never unfair. If you like tower defence and are looking for something unique, you could do far worse than this gem.

8 / 10.0 - Worms W.M.D
Aug 22, 2016

Worms W.M.D as a whole is a lot of fun, it’s the best 2D Worms title we’ve had in a long time and it reminds me why these games are so enjoyable to play. If you are looking for a multiplayer game to play with family and friends on the couch or for a game night over the internet you could do a lot worse than get a bout of Worms!

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice does everything you’d expect from a sequel, and whilst some issues from the past linger you’ll be too engrossed to be bothered. A great instalment for series fans and newcomers alike.

A challenging, sometimes punishing platformer that blends a unique hook and fun movement with clever level design that is well worth a look. Don't let the innocent appearance fool you.

8 / 10.0 - Bullet Soul

A great little shooter with some niggly PC port issues. A challenging but fun title whose ghost bullet gimmick makes the gameplay aggressive and intense. Not for everyone but for fans of the genre it's a solid title.

This surprise expansion for Titan Quest takes you on a journey to the frigid north after exhausting all the sun-soaked options before getting you hooked on loot all over again. The slower pacing and combat might not be for everyone but for those that love the original or action-RPGs from that era there is a lot to like.

An interesting sequel to one of the best games of 2016, delving further into the role of government as an all-seeing eye with interesting questions about privacy and truth. Doesn't add much to the original's formula but still well worth playing.

8 / 10.0 - Prey: Mooncrash
Jun 29, 2018

An interesting attempt to blend roguelite elements within a narrative and a welcome return to Prey's quirky alien world. It won't be for everyone but it's a satisfying, fun and challenging experience for fans of one of last year's best games.

8 / 10.0 - Shenmue 1 & 2
Aug 27, 2018

Shenmue I & II brings the Dreamcast classics to a new audience as well as those nostalgic for the old days. They are still fun, exciting games even with a few quirks due to their age and are well worth playing in 2018.

SNK's female-only fighter lacks the complexity of its older brethren but can be a glitzy over-the-top fun time if you let it. Fanservice hides a fun, simple to grasp fighting system that is deeper than you think.

TWEWY -Final Remix- does a stellar job with updating the DS originals visual and aural design. Some control issues and changes to combat mechanics to fit the Nintendo Switch are unfortunate but the story and game systems are still excellent and will still have you eagerly trying to survive the Reaper's Game.

A great little twin-stick shooter that wears its inspiration on its sleeves but backs it up with challenging wave based fun that might easily become an addiction as you try to work your way up the leaderboards.

8 / 10.0 - Shenmue III
Dec 8, 2019

A direct continuation of a classic series that acts like it's still the early 2000s, for better or worse! For returning fans this is precisely what you wanted. It's possible for newcomers to enjoy but you should probably play the originals first.

Taking the series in an entirely new direction, Darksiders Genesis manages to stay true to the prior games whilst delivering in a totally different genre. A fun game let down by grindy character progression.

A set of interesting RPGs set in a unique, fascinating world. Imagery that will stay with you long after you stop playing. Tried and tested combat is a shame but the interesting crafting is worth a look.
