Poi: Explorer Edition is a nice, budget 3D platformer that is perfect for younger Nintendo Switch owners. The challenges in the game can become rather repetitive, but if you are looking for a colourful platformer that is inoffensive and fun, then you can’t go too wrong with Poi!
Resident Evil Revelations 2 takes everything from the first game and improves upon it. Although I am torn between which location I prefer (Cruise Ship vs Island facility) I feel that this sequel has benefitted from being developed for consoles. The Revelations spinoff series has produced arguably two of the best Resident Evil games since Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube, and now we can finally experience them both together on a Nintendo console!
The extra time taken to bring Yooka Laylee to the Nintendo Switch has been worth it. The game runs extremely well on the Switch and feels well polished. A few design issues, however, means that this spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie is good but not quite great!
Resident Evil Revelations is a great entry in the legendary survival-horror series and a great fit for the Nintendo Switch. The bite-sized chapters make short bursts of play in handheld mode ideal, whilst also translating well to the big screen. Just make sure you don't book any cruise holidays in the near future - it's certainly put me off!
10tons' spelling RPG-lite is good fun in short bursts, but the grind will grate after a while. While I wouldn't recommend Spellspire to the majority of Nintendo Switch owners, if you are a fan of mental puzzle games then you will find something to enjoy here.
Like a fine wine, Skyrim is a game that has improved with age. I had mixed feelings about the Nintendo Switch version prior to playing, knowing what issues I faced in the PS3 version and wondering how it would perform on the Nintendo Switch. However, I had nothing to worry about - the game is fantastic on the Nintendo Switch and is a fantastic way to experience Bethesda's open-world wonder. If you haven't played this before, you are in for a treat! If you have, you're in for a pleasant surprise and returning to this world is a welcome trip down memory lane!
By no means a bad game, Monopoly for Nintendo Switch just seems to miss the point a little. As far as replicating the board game goes, this title does a great job. However, the things that make Monopoly great - the arguments, the social aspect etc are somewhat lacking here. For the price of this title, you'd be better off spending your money on the actual board game and playing with friends and family - it'd be cheaper and a heck of a lot more fun!
Violett is a pretty looking point and click title that does have its moments but is let down by poor storytelling and some strange design choices. Fans of the genre and newcomers alike will find the game to have a certain charm, but frustrations will creep in and I found myself appreciating the stalwarts of the genre even more by the time I saw the end credits.
Graceful Explosion Machine is arguably the go-to arcade game that every Switch owner should definitely consider buying. It mixes pleasing visuals with great gameplay to make it one of the best arcade shooters I've played. You can beat the four worlds in around four hours, but you will find yourself playing these over and over again as you chase down those high scores!
Human Resource Machine is a game that aims to teach you basic programming. The one thing it fails at is that it forgets to teach - you will soon be tasked with puzzles that seem impossible, making this job-simulator game feel like a real chore. While aesthetically pleasing and certainly charming in an odd way, you will soon be eyeing up a career change!
Blaster Master Zero is fun while it lasts! With a bizarre story and fun gameplay, this is one Metroidvania-style game that can be played by both fans of the series and newcomers alike. The only complaints about this remaster are that it is short and rather easy, but the seven or so hours it will take you to get to the end are certainly entertaining while they last!
Snipperclips - Cut it out, together! is great fun for all the family! It may be a little on the short side, but with two or more people playing those hours will be both frantic and funny! Arguably the second best game of the Switch's launch, I cannot recommend this eShop title enough!
