Echoes of Wisdom brings back 2D Zelda while infusing it with the spirit of Echoes of Wisdom. The creativity to which its puzzles are both created and solved are superb, and I hope to see more of this going forward.

5.5 / 10.0 - The Plucky Squire
Sep 30, 2024

The Plucky Squire is a cute looking game that's got a great presentation and a pretty shallow execution. It just doesn't live up to what we wanted it to be and there's very little in there that's worth sticking around for. Worst of all, the constant needless dialogues, interruptions and unasked for tips keep breaking the flow of the game and disrespecting the player.

The Lost Crown is one of my favorite games of the year and maybe my favorite Prince of Persia game ever. The fluid and skill-expressive movement and combat really shine in this Metroidvania that shows there's still a place for the series in a post-Assassin's Creed Ubisoft.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is surprisingly fun, comical and further improves on the already excellent ATB combat system. It's already one of the contenders for best game of the year.

7 / 10.0 - Pepper Grinder
Apr 6, 2024

Pepper Grinder is a fun title with fluid and precise movement that makes its platforming and puzzle satisfying to clear. I'm a bit disappointed that the game is so short, as I feel like there could be more ideas and mechanics to explore here.

8 / 10.0 - Blasphemous 2
Mar 9, 2024

I highly recommend Blasphemous 2 to any Metroidvania fan. It's a great sequel with snappy, satisfying combat and movement, great exploration and a heavy, brutal and memorable world.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a sequel and a half to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, filled with great content and a very much improved combat system. That said, its narrative frustrated me, the story doesn't really decide what it wants to be or say and it ends up disrespecting its characters and the sacrifices they made throughout the game.

Like a Dragon Gaiden is a fun but mostly inconsequential entry in the series. The shorter main campaign actually makes it more enjoyable as the expansive side content makes up for it. As a fan, I enjoyed the game but it's pretty clear that its main objective is just to keep us invested on the upcoming Infinite Wealth.

9 / 10.0 - Alan Wake 2
Dec 10, 2023

When discussing video games as works of art, Alan Wake 2 is one of those works that will pop into my mind immediately. It's a brilliant piece of entertainment with a unforgettable narrative and setting and one of the best games of what has been an astounding year in 2023.

After finishing the campaign in a few hours, I've felt that Unleashed 2 didn't have much to offer. The track builder is a strong feature for the creative type players, and overall the game is solid, even if a bit too simple. If you can grab it at a discount, it's a good Christmas gift for children who like the toy brand, but other than that, I can't recommend this game at its full price.

5 / 10.0 - Sonic Superstars
Oct 25, 2023

Sonic Superstars starts off well enough, but the more you play, the more cracks it starts to show. The quality of the levels just falls off after a while, and the bosses are unbelievably frustrating. For its current price tag, it's impossible for me to recommend this game to anyone.

6 / 10.0 - Starfield
Sep 22, 2023

I've got mixed feelings towards Starfield. Even though I found the game entertaining throughout my playthrough, it's so far from being a memorable experience. The combat is decent enough, the plot is mostly forgettable and the characters are just... bland. It doesn't help that you spent a good chunk of your time fast traveling around.

5 / 10.0 - Dead Island 2
Apr 27, 2023

The best thing I have to say about Dead Island 2 is "It's a zombie game that released in 2023.". It's a generic, repetitive title that thinks it's funnier that it really is. After 15 hours, I was begging for it to be over.

Like a Dragon: Ishin! sticks very closely to the Yakuza series' formula. Which means it'll bring its players both fun combat, ridiculous side content and some great character moments... and also exceeding amounts of expository dialogue and filler story beats.

5 / 10.0 - Digimon Survive
Sep 5, 2022

As an avid Digimon fan, I'm disappointed to say that Survive did not meet my expectations at all. The combat is extremely superficial, the writing is as deep as a puddle, and the world is one of the most uninteresting the series has ever produced.

Evil Dead: The Game can be fun in short bursts, but at the moment of writing, the game's begging for more content to keep itself fresh and populated.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land didn't blow me away, it's a simple and short game, and that plays into one of its strengths. While it could've been a little more coherent with it's visuals, and the level design could be a bit more open, the title works as a little puzzle platforming beat 'em up game that you can just boot up, play and relax.

7.5 / 10.0 - Metroid Dread
Nov 23, 2021

There's no denying that Metroid Dread is a solid game. But I'm still disappointed at how safe the studio decided to play with this game. While the gameplay is solid, everything else is just "ok" and there's no innovation, leaving me feeling that the newest sequel to Metroid should've felt more influential on the future of the genre it popularized.

7.5 / 10.0 - Lost Judgment
Oct 5, 2021

A must buy for long-time fans of the Yakuza series. Lost Judgment is a game full of content, with an incredibly enjoyable combat system and a story that whilst does not land with both feet in its execution, still shows some touching moments.
