7 / 10 - Spirit Roots
Feb 14, 2020

Spirit Roots for the Nintendo Switch brings a game in the form of a relatively simple 2D platformer. Simple, but challenging, especially where its level bosses are concerned - they can be quite tough, even for experienced players. And while this is not a blockbuster, it's clear that a very good work went into its artistic component. It may not give a lot of reasons to return to after finishing it, but Spirit Roots certainly earned its place among its peers.

7 / 10 - Jamestown+
Dec 19, 2019

Jamestown+ lands on the Nintendo Switch as one of the most fun shoot'em-ups of this generation and this conversion work is without a doubt a very competent one. The gameplay is frantic and addictive, the game's performance is up to what is expected and the cooperative mode does wonders. Those already familiar with the game, however, won't find a whole new amount of original content in this delivery.

6 / 10 - Polyroll
Nov 27, 2019

Polyroll does not redefine the 2D platforming genre but there's nothing wrong with this simple game with clear inspirations in some of the genre's classics. While its gameplay doesn't always feel right and the adventure is rather short-lived, Polyroll is sold at a friendly price and features a decent amount of creative, challenging bosses. In the end, it's not a groundbreaking game but big fans of retro-style indie platformers have something to enjoy in Polyroll.

The Bradwell Conspiracy is a game that may feature some interesting puzzles and well executed dialogues but unfortunately, it must be said that performance problems and mostly, an unintuitive and constricting gameplay end up harming the experience and many players will feel like there are very few incentives to invest time and energy into this work.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered brings back a game from a previous generation that does a very good job at portraying the much appreciated movie series. Under a third person action game, this remaster features plenty of fun moments and a great amount of ghosts to catch, while it does not go much further at making improvements beyond the original game and ends up being rather short.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a marvelous piece of a platform game that may not reinvent the whole genre but which has enough of the right stuff to provide an experience that's enjoyable and delightful to play. Thanks to its gaming worlds, humorous dialogues and challenge level, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will fit well with both fans of platform games and those taking their first steps in the genre.

Hellmut: the Badass from Hell is not a game for everyone. Less experienced players will feel put off by its very demanding level of difficulty, while more seasoned veterans will enjoy its mix of varied characters and procedurally generated levels with a tough challenge threshold. While the audiovisual environment is far from being something spectacular, Hellmut: the Badass from Hell can certainly keep a demanding player's attention for a long time.

Rad Rodgers: Radical Edition has one well defined mission: to pay tribute to the early 90 action platformers with plenty of shooting and for that, it performs quite decently, as its fun moments, good presentation and variety of weapons demonstrate. On the downside, it doesn't aim for anything else and any members of the audience who are not interested in this style of gameplay will not be captivated by this effort, which should also improve its level design and soundtrack.
