„Horizon: Forbidden West” is such a beauty. Not only because its terrific art design and technical prowess. The way it merges multilayered and deeply humanistic message with its aesthetical paradoxes and narrative flair - that’s what makes the difference. If only Guerilla Games didn’t measure itself by Ubisoft, making the game so damn unfocused.

„Halo: Infinite” is basically „Skyfall”. Neither a sequel nor reboot, it is simultaneously apologetic, nostalgic and forward-looking. But unlike in „Skyfall” being offensive to predecessors actually pays off in a big way and makes for fascinating journey to the roots of the genre. Yeah, with modern touch it’s not the same kind of magic. But I strongly doubt if the same exact kind of magic is something we should be wishing for.

Disjointed mess of a game „Battlefield 2042” is a latest entry in a franchise known for it’s crucial paradox: massive scale gels with tight, well-paced battle encounters. Except it doesn’t gel this time around. It’s more like Werner Herzog movie: you trek tirelessly through the mountains, forests and rivers and then get shot in the head by some chilled out dude with a sniper rifle. As Herzog would put it: „This universe is monstrously indifferent to the presence of man”.

If gaming industry was a family reunion, Rockstar would be unbearable neoliberal patriarch. Hideo Kojima would go as a pretentious cousin with film school diploma and degree in philosophy. „Call of Duty: Vanguard” on the other hand would be a heavy-drinking, wisecracking, jovial uncle who reminisces good ol’ war times, tells dad jokes and eventually makes a flatus ignition show with his zippo. It’s good to talk about virtues of art and have strong pacifistic beliefs. But parties without uncle are just boring.

Theme park is open: witness a genocide while riding a zipline! Despite unnerving paradox in the center of "Far Cry 6" (and all "Far Cry" games for that matter), latest in Ubisoft franchise is still fun - as far as Get-Ambushed-By-Wild-Roosters-While-Quoting-"Aliens" fun goes. If you come to terms with the fact that screenwriters didn't write anything substantial and guerrillas are not the heroes of our age, it'll be a blast.

Live, kill, die, repeat. Deathloop, as all looped in time stories do, manages to capture the very essence of the medium, its stylistic devices and thematic blueprints. Nowhere near masterpiece, it’s still swaggy, funky and constantly captivating experience with autothematic core. Don’t break the loop!

Have you ever had your heart broken by a girl named Ramlethal Valentine? That's how metal "Guilty Gear: Strive" is. Axel Bowie, Lemmy Hetfield and ZZ Cooper share a dream, while newbies and pros alike gather in a mosh pit and praise rewarding system, offbeat rythm and stunning art style. There's also another girl - brazilian cop of italian descent fighting for US President alongside phantom husky. Just take my money already.

It's utterly hilarious how difficult "Ninja Gaiden" games are and how Tomonobu Itagaki single handedly proves modern "too easy, too hard" discourse irrelevant. "Master Collection" is a decent remaster, but the question is: how hard will you push yourself to change this hellscape into a funhouse? On the other hand, home is where the heart lies. And my heart is right there, in the world of pain.

"Rift Apart" isn't just beautiful. Sunsets are. Chocolate soufflé is. Maybe siamese kittens too. Here, visual flair and unfathomable tech underneath the sparky, shiny surface constitute the greater experience. Stunning vistas, tremendous particle effects and Pixar-grade animation elevate the story and expand our imagination leading into pure, aesthetic ecstasy. Just look out for your feet - dropping jaw can be pretty damn heavy.

"Village" is a rollercoaster rushing through a history of contemporary horror. And there's no stoping it. With its gorgeous landscapes, complex level design, visceral combat and constant thrills (cheap and sophisticated alike) it's a true testament to "Resident Evil" glory.

Despite being infatuated with all sanbox tropes and mechanics possible, Ghost of Tsushima is polished and rewarding experience. It does justice to feudal japanese culture and bows to master Kurosawa with style.
