James Cunningham's Reviews
Star Wars Pinball VR is a strong collection of tables that all play differently from each other, whether it's the large dominating loops of Rogue One, the small spiral tower of Classic Collectibles or the dark and light holocrons of Masters of the Force. The tables revamped from standard-screen play were already a good pinball time and the two new ones complement them well, plus the move to VR makes any digital pinball better.
Game development is hard and things can get crazy, but usually it at least sticks to the realm of the physically possible.
Cozy Grove is a wonderful, loveable, colorful take and the life-sim genre, with a huge amount to discover spread out over a long period of play.
Even with the annoyance of the narrator being so utterly clueless, there's no question that Maquette is effective at illustrating the pain of a good relationship gone bad.
Solas 128 is an intricate sprawling mass of puzzles, slowly building in intricacy from managing a single beam to untangling multiple colors and filters with only a handful of reflectors.
Super Meat Boy Forever is an incredibly polished and fully worthwhile sequel to the platforming classic.
Immortals: Fenyx Rising doesn't have any right to be as good as it turned out to be.
Ray's the Dead is a hard game to either recommend or trash, balanced neatly between being a charming and much-smarter-than-it-looks zombie-fest and a buggy mess punctuated by painfully blatant '80s nostalgia.
Serious Sam 4 is easily the richest game in the series, expanding on the character and his world while not holding back on the action that's been the major draw from the earliest days.
Hotshot Racing is a refreshing blast of retro-arcade racing action.
3 Out of 10 came as a nice surprise, released for free and dropping a new episode every week for its first five-week season.
It's hard to understate how incredible having the whole world available feels and the amount of possibility it opens up.
One of the goals of Moose Life was to make a game that felt nice to play and it succeeds incredibly well at doing that.
Hellbound may not be great but it's a short, sweet thrill ride while it lasts.
While it would be nice to see Toriko as more of a character, everything else in Void Terrarium is bursting with charm.
I'm hoping Panzer Paladin gets ironed out post-release because despite the above paragraph, the game is a huge amount of fun when it works.
Neon Abyss is a highly playable action-roguelike with a huge number of perks and weapons to take on the ever-growing horde of monsters that show up in each room.
While the difficulty level is unbalanced everything else in Shantae and the Seven Sirens works together to create an incredibly entertaining platform-adventure.
Skelattack doesn't know what it wants to be but despite this I did end up getting just a little more enjoyment than aggravation out of it.
Minecraft Dungeons is a capable all-ages dungeon crawl that, while doesn't use its license to anything like its full potential (see Dragon Quest Builders 2 for how to do it right), is still good fun once it gets moving.
