Palm Sugar: A Village Story Reviews
Palm Sugar is a short and charming narrative adventure that surprises with how quickly its lighthearted romantic setup turns into a much darker revenge story. Its colorful pixel art, atmospheric setting, and detailed illustrations give the game plenty of personality, but the experience is held back by extremely simple combat, minimal environmental interaction, shallow character reactions, slow movement, and several technical issues. At around one to two hours long, it works best as a small narrative one-shot rather than a fully developed action adventure.

If I am being completely honest, I wish Palm Sugar: A Village Story was less of an RPG and more of a visual novel. The gameplay elements spend more time harming the overall experience, taking away from what makes the story so captivating and strong. There is a great story and world within Palm Sugar, but given its many issues, it’s hard to recommend, even if it’s mercifully short.
