“Once upon a time, there was a very sad princess. She felt so unloved and unhappy, that everything around her became grey and lifeless and the entire land was deprived of its color and joy. Our fable begins when a single, lonely lantern was lit in a faraway village…” Be the wind and guide a beautiful sky lantern that spreads the powerful message of everlasting love, by bringing life and color back to the world around you. Enjoy four beautiful Asian-inspired worlds, each with a different theme, nature and architecture. Spread vibrant, happy colors through grey and lifeless lands by flying over them as a red, light-emitting lantern. The influence of the lantern’s light not only changes the color of the world, but also produces various additional effects, such as turning other lamps on, bringing animals to life, and making windmills start spinning. You’ll ultimately succeed once the kingdom is full of color and happiness has returned to the land.

Lantern Critic Reviews

Lantern is a peculiar adventure, different and, in some ways, unique. Is a short and condensed trip, designed to appeal the lovers of simple and relaxing interactive experiences.

But the question you have to ask yourself is this: would I buy this game? There isn't much replay value, but it can entertain for a few hours and it is a break from the traditional and more mainstream kind of games that we all have been buying and playing for so many years now. But we don't think we would buy it, no. Even for a game that presents itself as a relaxing and calm experience, it isn't that relaxing or calm at times. Trying to figure out the controls before we plugged in our controller wasn't the most relaxing of experiences, and you can imagine our surprise when we decide to pause for the evening in the middle of our game only to find that we'll have to restart everything. If we had to sum it up in one quick sentence, we would describe Lantern as 'like if China did a stress coloring book.' But we think the pros here outweigh the cons just enough for us to give it a solid six out of ten.

A pleasant and immediate experience, enjoyable with a VR headset but also in a more traditional way. The game does not deliver a real challenge, but it want to represent a way to relax, and enjoy the beautiful landscapes included in the four levels. If you are looking for a game that reveals itself as frantic and adrenalinic, Lantern is not your pick. However, if you want to explore a pleasant and quiet world, it might be just what you are looking for.
