All in all, God Wars: Future Past is definitely a game that should be played for its story, due to the lack of any other great feature or unique aspect. Luckily, if you´re a fan of traditional folklore like me, you will surely have a good time, despite its uninspired bland gameplay and graphics.
The general ignorance of the west towards Japanese folk stories and philosophy mean that this is a game that a lot of people will scratch their heads over. This includes those that generally likes the games that Japanese creators make with the western market in mind. But I hope it's a game that others embrace as a stepping stone towards understanding a history and culture that too many are too eager to dismiss as "weird" or different.
God Wars: Future Past is an incredible game with deep and complex customization options. The hand-drawn retro style graphics ar every well polished and colorful, and the music perfectly fits the game's theme. The story is very addictive, so once you start playing it will be a hard game to put down. A little more freedom to explore would have been awesome, but it's not a dealbreaker. God Wars Future Past is a great tactical RPG and a must-have on PS4.
God Wars: Future Past takes classic SRPG gameplay mechanics and not only executes but also supplements them incredibly well. The game's story and cast of characters make for a fascinating and entertaining experience that is matched only by the game's enjoyable battles and deep character progression. The experience is then enhanced even further by the game's beautiful 2D visuals and fully animated cutscenes. In spite its few flaws, SRPG fans will surely enjoy this latest outing by Kadokawa Games and newcomers who are able to take the genre's traditionally slower pace may find themselves hooked.
Although the game looks a bit dated and the story can be messy at times, God Wars: Future Past is a game that should be played by anyone who craves a great SRPG that tests your skills and knowledge of the genre. Kadokawa Games seemed to take the feedback of what they did wrong with Natural Doctrine and deliver a game that fits in well with other notable SPRG titles, while adding unique systems that allow it to stand out.
If you are in search for the next evolution in SRPGs you won't find it here. What you will find is a perfectly enjoyable title that, while not without its faults, manages to tick all the right boxes. It has a unique story, likable characters, decent combat and just enough depth with its class system to keep it all enjoyable.
God Wars Future Past attempts to bring some interesting exposition to the Japanese folk stories while proving a fairly robust combat system with some great customization options.
If those rough edges were fixed, then the game would be held in a higher regard. But for what is there, coming from the fundamentally flawed Natural Doctrine comes the fundamentally solid God Wars. Due to the fact that the game has been delayed several times to fix bugs and even include user feedback, it shows that Kadokawa was truly dedicated to making the battles the best they could possibly be and it sure does show. If there is ever a sequel for God Wars, I’ll be right there waiting.
There have been a handful of excellent RPG/strategy games that have released so far in 2017, and God Wars: Future Past hangs in there with a nice mix of old school sensibilities with some modern touches that make it an enjoyable adventure until the end.
God Wars Future Past is a deep, compelling and difficult SRPG in the veins of the great classics of the genre (Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics in primis), with little to no new features and an average presentation. Should be more than enough to satisfy hardcore SRPG fans.

God Wars: Future Past is certainly a JRPG from another time, when the tactical genre was a mainstay on the Playstation 2 (and even has the aesthetics to match). If you've been craving another tactical title in your life, God Wars is a pretty safe choice.
If complex, entertaining battles float your boat, and you can tolerate the lack of diversions or deviations, then you'll be in your nostalgic element with God Wars: Future Past.
God Wars: Future Past is a very traditional TRPG, and as such, it is built upon a solid foundation, and fans of the genre are going to like it. It does, however, do very little to stand out. It could also be helped a bit by balancing the jobs more. Some jobs just feel extremely underwhelming compared to others. The story and the gameplay in general are going to deliver what fans expect and desire, though: nothing less, and sadly, nothing more.
God Wars: Future Past features basic gameplay and simplistic visuals but an intriguing, well told story based around Japanese folklore that makes it a worthwhile experience.
If you've been on the look out for some old school tactical RPG, GOD WARS Future Past will deliver. However, its messy storyline, load times and ever-increasing party members downplay its score.
Ultimately, while it's a little bit disappointing to see Kadokawa go with such a "safe" design for its return to the tactical RPG battlefield, there's enough in God Wars: Future Past's narrative and atmosphere to recommend it to someone on the lookout for a new Tactics-style title.
Fans of the genre will definitely find their fix here. God Wars may not push the envelope though adheres to what can make tactical RPGs so deep and rewarding. With a little more care given to the story, friendly AI, and graphics, this could easily have been a much-needed triumph for Kadokawa Games.
God Wars: Future Past is an SRPG which feels less future-facing and more like it's stuck in the past. It does nothing to try and redefine the genre, but it does have a number of well executed mechanics including a compelling job system. SRPG fans should find just enough to like, and newcomers may also stumble across some tactical fun.
God Wars: Future Past is an excellent turn based RPG for fans of the genre. Players will certainly enjoy the story telling through cutscenes and lively cast characters met along the way. And even though battles can become challenging at times, coming back with a new strategy in mind almost always leads to victory. PS Vita owners would definitely get the most out of this game with its handheld version.
God Wars: Future Past offers a decent strategy RPG that keeps things straightforward by throwing away complex mechanics in favour of a well-built job system that calls back to the classic strategy RPGs, like Final Fantasy Tactics.
