Though not perfect, Detroit: Become Human is certainly Quantic Dream’s boldest attempt yet, and the refinements they’ve made make for a smoother, more enjoyable experience. Detroit is bursting with personality, full of intrigue, and exploding with emotive depth. The many mechanical and performance issues that have plagued past games have now largely evaporated allowing for you to truly immerse yourself in one of the great narrative adventures of 2018.

Like all of Quantic's games, Detroit is a big, stupid swing for the fences, yet another attempt to get Cage's dream of "playable movies" off the ground. Skeptics of the studio's previous games won't be convinced, but there are plenty of small improvements that make it Quantic's best offering to date

Detroit tells a story of robots who look and act relatively human, making their way through a nonsense world where everyone, even the humans, doesn't actually look or act human at all. It's a fragmented radio broadcast from a valley within the uncanny valley, so many layers deep in unreality that it could never hope to make it out intact.

The best part of Detroit: Become Human is without a doubt the story, so it’s a huge shame I can’t talk about it in detail. If you’re not into story-driven games, then the gameplay certainly won’t engross you enough to make it worthwhile as the narrative is all Detroit really has. However, if you are interested in giving it a go, it’s a fascinating experience as the game explores AI and opens a dialogue about the impact they’ll have in society, their humanity and exactly what rights they should have if they were to become sentient. The story does have its up and downs for sure – there are plenty of tropes, clichés and a bit too much melodrama that stops it short of being a literary masterpiece. It also doesn’t bring any new ideas to the table about AI going rouge – but then again, as a piece of entertainment it does as described – it entertains. While it doesn’t excel as a “game” in the sense of the word, it’s easily one of the best experiences of its kind I’ve played, and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Detroit: Become Human is another playable movie from Quantic Dream and David Cage, and it is so much more and better than the previous games (Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls) – partly because of the great story, the acting and the great graphics, and partly because of the introduction of flowcharts so you actually know what you've missed. I really love this game and so far it's my game of the year.

If you like a rich deep storyline along the same lines as games like The Walking Dead and Life is Strange and don't care about a lack of "agency" which has always been illusory in video games then you will most definitively enjoy this game as much as I have. For me, Detroit: Become Human is both a reminder and illustration of the many challenges and the triumphs, the sadness and joys that humanity and individuals have gone through. To me it was life-affirming, and I considered it deep, rich and meaningful. Or maybe I am just being melodramatic about all of this who knows. Roger Ebert once said that video games will never be art. Though that statement can be and has been argued for and against I believe Detroit: Become Human is if not a work of art is definitely a game interwoven with artistic vision. And that vision was an absolute joy to watch unfold and play.

Detroit: Become Human clearly lets my genuine emotion out of me, I wasn’t sure if I was impersonating how the character should have chosen or was it me doing those choices? A lot of those dialogues resonated with me, fighting and arguing over what I should’ve decided. I was so invested in the gameplay that every decision tends to get harder and harder – with an outcome that is so unforgiving and sometimes gratifying. This game is a twisted interpretation of an extreme reality: where segregation, racial discrimination, slavery and mental abuse still exists. I truly believe that a lot of people can identify themselves with the character at some point for so many different reasons and it shows us that wrong decisions are sometimes necessary to get the job done. The algorithm in coming up with those intricate flowchart is a masterpiece on its own. So who says you can’t learn a thing or two in a video game? It even showed me how to become more human. Don’t you agree?

Detroit: Become Human is a game that can be rather difficult to classify. It usually improves upon the forms of storytelling and gameplay found in Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, though character movements can still be frustrating and some stories are better than others. It still relies on sensational concepts and topics to get reactions from an audience, with some androids' routes more effectively and tactfully employing them than others. It is a more diverse game, both in terms of the kinds of characters displayed and the sorts of choices people can make. Quantic Dream's formula is evolving, even if it does rely on some of the same crutches.

I strongly recommend this game made by Quantic Dream. It impressed me under many point of view, and it can be considered the true heir of Heavy Rain, taking its strongest aspects (gameplay, interaction with the environment) and improving its flaws (a great plot and an incredible graphic). Though, the game still has some imperfections, like sometime too small environments, and stereotypical plot twists. But in any case, I suggest you to live the experience that this game can give to you, if you love graphic adventures and if you’re fan of Quantic Dream’s creations.

Detroit: Become Human is a poignantly pulpy interactive sci-fi drama where your choices can impact events to a greater and more satisfying degree than in most games of this type. Though I wish its story had been handled with a softer touch, especially considering the subtlety that can be conveyed through its tech and performances, its well-written and acted central trio were vital enough to me that I found myself feeling genuine distress when they were in danger and a sense of victory when they triumphed. Most importantly, Detroit offers a multitude of transparent branching paths that entice further playthroughs, and choices have a permanence that raise the stakes throughout.

It does suffer for some ham-fisted allegory and a couple of instances of appallingly mawkish dialogue, but that never overwhelms the overall enjoyment you get from its entertaining branching narrative. The story is not the most subtle, nor nuanced, take on discrimination, slavery, and machine self-awareness you'll find, but it is often surprisingly poignant and touching when Cage and his team nail the blend of video game and cinematic experience.

A cinematic approach, meaningful choices and the way the destiny of the three main characters intertwine are this game's most appealing aspects, but fiddly controls and an eventful but not necessarily original nor subtle diminished the experience slightly. This is still a step up from the developer's previous effort Heavy Rain.

Three androids will set you on an adventure that'll have you questioning humanity, their circumstances and yourself. Its cinematic presentation is as precise as expected, but the new flowchart is going to have you come back for more to see all the various endings you can unlock. If you enjoyed Heavy Rain you are going to love this.

Detroit: Become Human has an excellent narrative that makes us think that the decisions we make really affect the story - even if that may be just an impression. The technical aspects are impeccable. Detroit's biggest problems are the QTEs (it's time to change that system) and certain elements of the story.

Detroit Become Human touches on interesting and pertinent subjects that affect both our world and its. While it doesn’t present an overly compelling story, by the time the credits rolled it made me think about the decisions I made in a way I wasn’t expecting and in that regard, Quantic Dream achieved what it set out to do. A narrative-driven game with the ability to make players think about their decisions.

Detroit Become Human is one of the great games of 2018. If you are still on the fence about it, then check out the free Demo with the first chapter. This way you can tell if it is your thing or not. After you have finished playing this game and maybe another shot, you'll be missing this world dearly. At this time there has been no word on if there will be any DLC planned for Detroit Become Human which is a shame. I know I for one would love to see Conner in action a bit more and it would include more barricaded suspects, people in crisis missions and other hostage situations. That would be a cool DLC. Nonetheless, Detroit Become Human ticks all the right boxes when it comes to one of the great games of 2018.

Detroit: Become Human manages to destroy a perfect story setup with a simple "right in the face" presentation of a complex theme despite a great acting performance of the main characters. The many optional outcomes during the playthrough lose lots of replay value because of that and make it probably the worst Quantic Dream game so far. There are still good visuals and enough entertainment for one playthrough but it doesn't deliver on anything else.

Detroit has produced an exciting dramatic story based on fictional events but very close to our reality. A group of well-designed characters, both in terms of dramatic appearance and background, the way they interact with events, the dazzling cinematic level of film and the player's options directly affect the story, The game delays procrastination in some seasons and the difficulty of controlling some situations even though the title depends entirely on the options that appear on the screen, in addition to the expected surprises at the end of the story and some positions that are not explained satisfactorily.

Learning the story of Kara, Connor and Markus in Detroit: Become Human was a pleasant and engaging affair. I really grew fond of the heroes and I pondered over every decision. Quantic Dream's new game is a really good interactive movie, and the degree of non-linearity is amazing. It's a pity that the story itself is totally bland, obvious and downright disappointing; the characters are flat and cliché, and the game doesn't deliver any meaningful message – it's almost baffling how the authors could have missed such an opportunity to make a statement.

As an unashamed fan of Quantic Dream's previous output, Detroit: Become Human is a mixed bag. On one hand, there is a continuation of the work that they've done with the previous titles, and they have crafted a wonderfully bleak world with Detroit. While it doesn't quite push the boundaries as much as Heavy Rain, there are some interesting ideas planted in the early stages of the story that never blossom fully, but still gives a somewhat satisfying conclusion, regardless of how you decide to play. On the other hand, the occasionally frustrating control issues and borderline laughable moments in the script made me shake my head on more than one occasion. It's a real shame, because there is an absolutely brilliant game tucked away somewhere in here. As it stands, it's only going to be great if you're willing to look past the obvious inherent flaws.

Overall, I think Detroit: Become Human is OK. I’ll forever praise Quantic Dream’s ability to write an amazing game that captures the player. The voice acting, writing, and motion capture had me from the beginning. The wonky controls and generic story left me wondering if I should give it a second playthrough or sell it. All in all, if you are a fan of Quantic Dream games and deep stories, you’ll like Detroit.

Quantic Dream's visual craft and presentation is top-notch, but the writing hasn't quite caught up yet. Detroit: Become Human is evidence that breathtaking production isn't effective camouflage for anemic dialogue and abysmal writing. By co-opting famous racial prejudices and projecting all of them onto society's assimilation of androids, Detroit spoils its power to create convincing drama.  The sense of agency and control over its story remains exciting, but archetypal plotting and cosmetic platitudes leave Detroit without much to say about anything.

Detroit’s storytelling is lackluster and formulaic. The script has less emotion in it than androids before they become deviants and, in fact, I have to wonder whether an android wrote it. Perhaps it’s some in-joke on Cage’s part. As consumers and critics, we would never praise this level of storytelling in movies, TV shows, or books, yet for some reason, this nonsense is acclaimed just because there is a basic level of interactivity involved. If we want the quality of storytelling in games to improve, we need to demand more than this soulless and predictable nonsense.
