undefined.I may not be home and able to play this latest entry with my mother, but it feels wonderful to call her and tell her that there's a new Soulcalibur game that's pretty dang good despite some relatively minor flaws; that characters we loved like Talim, Taki and Xianghua have returned; and that I'm making new memories with beloved friends so amusing that I've already begun to record them. Soulcalibur VI isn't just a reboot—it's a revitalization, and it proves that the tale of souls and swords still has the potential to be eternally retold.

It’s true that there’s surprisingly little in the way of innovation in Soulcalibur VI, and I’m not one hundred percent on board with condoning a game that takes so few risks and perhaps feels several new characters short of a final product. Yet while this complaint still stands, I can mostly forgive it because, at its best, Soulcalibur VI is a giddy pile of fun. It’s fun because it’s a particularly well-tuned version of the same free-flowing slashy-kicky fest the series has always been, but now it’s also on PC. It’s fun because it has good online matchmaking options that actually seem to work. It’s fun because the character creator is ridiculous and good and excessive. It’s fun because it’s an intuitive fighting game that provides some self-improvement tools for the competitively-minded. I like it, basically, despite how it took me a while to be sure I was even playing a new title, and I hope it sticks around for a while.

I am the biggest fan of creating your own character! I was absolutely blown away with the selections of gear and the different ways to customize your fighter. Pick all the gear separately or throw on a whole outfit already premade. You can choose every single piece of gear with various colors and or designs that are of a vast selection. I have not seen a Fighter as well put together as this and is pretty amazing they could pack so much into this. From the hair styles, stance, clothing and even the items that can be placed anywhere on your character. They missed nothing here and I was absolutely thrown back. I almost, almost had a hard time making my character due to all the items that can be selected, though I wasn't, it is saying a lot that I almost was. I can get into making a character, all day if need be to make it perfect. Well done, well done indeed.

SoulCalibur VI is an excellent fighting game and it reignites the flame of this wonderful series. The gameplay is fantastic and the online mode is also very good. The single-player mode has plenty of content and the character-creation mode continues to please. Geralt was a great choice of a guest character, too. The negative point goes to the story mode told in the form of text or dialogues (it lacks the production that Tekken 7 received). Other negative points are the absence of some fan favorite characters, and the few new ones (only two, besides Geralt).

While SoulCalibur VI probably will not be a top title in the eSports fighting scene, it has a solid enough online presence that should provide plenty of competitive gameplay. And finally Bandai Namco has came back with one of its most liked series and most-anticipated games. SoulCalibur VI is here... It is a mixture of all that we like about a good fighting game. The fights are simple, accessible, fast and deep, and the visuals are good enough to make you satisfied. The only boring part is the slow paced and uninteresting storytelling with a lot of texts and long conversations that a fighting game doesn't need too much. Soulcalibur VI ticks all the boxes I expect from a Soulcalibur game: its iconic characters, the compelling stories, fast yet measured movement, and a skill curve that allows newer players to jump in, but enough depth for masters to truly enjoy. It isn't perfect, and while its story mode feels dated in its presentation, the real issue is the lack of a real training mode that benefits all users. At the end of the day, though, it's fantastic to see Soulcalibur return to consoles (and finally come to PC!) in top form.

Soulcalibur VI is a solid entry in the long-running fighting franchise. The new Reversal Edge mechanic gives everyone a chance at a comeback, with a balanced risk that their move may backfire on the player who invoked the move. A decent campaign is paired with a beefier custom story mode, to provide for dozens of hours of gameplay, even if most of the cutscenes are more visual novel than actual cutscene. Barebones online options may leave some players wanting more, but getting to the action is as quick as ever because of a sharp focus. Time will tell if these improvements can translate to better sales, but Soulcalibur VI is one game all fighting fans should pick up.

Had it not been for the rather unpleasant decision to block Tira as a Season Pass bonus, Project Soul's latest work would have had very few things to complain about.

The return of SoulCalibur to the current console generation is impressive, versatile and full of action. Through numerous features, Bandai Namco wants to appeal to both, veterans and newcomers, which succeeds for the most part. Even if the extensive history around the Soul Edge knows how to inspire, what remains is a stale aftertaste to the detriment of the new combat mechanics.

SoulCalibur VI certainly has plenty of issues, like a lack of extra modes, a few visuals blemishes, the somewhat unimpressive Reverse Edge move, and the usual greedy attitude towards DLC. Nevertheless, it's also a highly entertaining, high-octane fighter that can be enjoyed by greenhorns and veterans alike, as well as being a more than decent revival of the franchise.

Soulcalibur VI feels like a game that's fighting to make a comeback in a world where it isn't sure it's welcome anymore, and the downside of that is that many of its parts feel like they were under-developed to keep costs low. However, much more important is the upside, which is that a fantastic fighting game series has finally come back to us, and it's still just as good as we all remember.

Overall, SoulCalibur 6 is a solid reboot of the franchise. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but focuses on sanding off the rough edges and returning the gameplay and storyline to the basics. The result is a game that's a distillation of what makes the SoulCalibur franchise fun. There's enough room and depth for people to get into the real -gritty of the gameplay, but there's also a lot of room for enjoyable fighting. It's a bit difficult to justify the purchase just for the single-player portion, but it's excellent for a couch party game — just like SoulCalibur should be.

"Soulcalibur VI" proves to be a modern, albeit slightly superficial, beat 'em up classic. Even though the fighting engine has undergone a noticeable fine-tuning, giving the game a pleasantly tactical depth, there's no point in looking for groundbreaking innovations. Especially the staging outside the fights is sometimes very unkind, so that "Soulcalibur VI" rather moves in the shadow of other beat 'em up's. All in all a technically round title with a decent amount of scope, inviting fans of beatings to entertaining game sessions.

SoulCalibur VI's combat could crack even the toughest case of fighting game-phobia; it's strategic, fluid, and deep, but remains as accessible as ever. It's unfortunate that it's hampered by a lack of interesting modes, and that its hefty single-player offerings attempt to shift the focus away from the robust combat system and towards stale, cumbersome stories.

All in all, Soulcalibur VI is fun, despite all of its problems, and I think it's all that matters in a fighting game. If we also take into account the developer's propensity to bring in characters from other games, such as The Witcher or Sonic, it moves the game to another meta-level. And that's definitely something that players will want.

SoulCalibur VI is a fantastic looking entry in the series, but beyond that feels like something of a missed opportunity. The core combat remains as vibrant, weighty and enjoyable as ever, but the Reversal Edge adds in an element of chance that feels at odds with what most fighting games set out to achieve. The two interminably dull story modes don't help either, with players left to rely on the the straightforward arcade and online modes for their kicks.

SoulCalibur VI tries to go back to its roots and mostly succeeds. It is far from being the game expected after waiting so long for the sixth entry, with low quality visuals, long loading times, and not much improvement over the same old combat, but if the return of old character favourites and that classic gameplay is what is sought after, this will do the job, with plenty to do for the solo player in story modes, although there is a lack of options outside of that.

Newbies with no real attachment to the Soulcalibur franchise will find that reversal edges only go so far and quickly become frustrated by the underlying complexity, while old-timers will quickly get sick of CPUs (and trolls online, no doubt) spamming reversal edges to slow down and drag out matches. At first glance, Soulcalibur VI looks to take the balance of Soulcalibur V and marry it with the better characters and story of the early games by returning to the events of the Dreamcast original and Soulcalibur II, but it falls all over itself in too many ways to recommend to fans or newcomers.
