Epic has announced the first round of free games to come to the Epic Games Store this year.
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, and Steep will be the first free games on the Epic Games Store this year. The games are free for players to pick up right now, and will be free until January 9th.
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition is the first free game that Epic is offering. The game follows War, one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as he battles the forces of Heaven and Hell. The updated version of the game features enhanced visuals, a 60 frames per second framerate, and 1080 resolution. It was originally released on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Wii U.
Similar to Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition updated the second game in the franchise. This version of the game featured updated visuals, as well as some balancing and bug fixing. The Deathinitive Edition also included all of the original version's DLC, which was integrated into the main campaign and rebalanced. The updated version of Darksiders II was originally released for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015, and followed on the Nintendo Switch last year.
The final free game from the Epic Games Store, Steep, is an open world winter sports game. The game originally released in 2016, and allows players to ski, paraglide, snowboard, and fly in wingsuits across the Alps. The game's DLC includes the X-Games Pass, additional modes, and new locations, though the free version on the Epic Games Store only comes with the base game.
This week's free games follows the Epic Games Store 12 Days of Free Games. A new game was free for a day for twelve days straight, with each game only being available for 24 hours. The Epic Games Store is currently holding a new sale entitled Encore Week, which features many of the deals from the platform's' 2019 holiday sale. Encore Week will last until January 7th.
The next free game coming to the Epic Games Store is strategy title For the King. It will be available starting January 9th.
