Black Ops 6 Players Angry Over Paid Squid Game Battle Pass

Netflix Korea's Squid Game premiered in 2021 and has made waves as a poignant social commentary on the dysfunctional financial dynamics of South Korean society.

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk's original message was quickly lost once the series took off, with multiple reality spin-offs, Fortnite collaborations, and now a Call of Duty partnership off to a bad start.

The crossover between Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Squid Game is rumored to be paywalled behind a premium Battle Pass.

According to an early teaser, the Squid Game events require "an exhilarating Event Pass, where the Premium Track route allows for more incredible rewards".

The announcement goes on to say that "a myriad of LTMs will feature signature sinister takes on Red Light/Green Light mechanics," but it is not clear how much of these are exclusive to the premium version of the event.

Activision has already pushed its luck by splitting the player base between the free Battle Pass and the paid Blackcell edition, which adds more cosmetics to the previous two.
