The PlayStation 5 logo was shown at CES 2020, and it looks very familiar.
At this year's CES (courtesy of PlayStation Lifestyle), Sony's Jim Ryan revealed the official logo for the upcoming PlayStation 5. The logo (seen below) looks very familiar, as it is the PlayStation 4 logo with a five taking the place of the original's 4. Other than the logo reveal, nothing new was shown for Sony's latest machine. We did not even see any games that will be releasing with the console, making the reveal a little lackluster. Already known features for the console were shared, such as ray tracing, a high-speed SSD, and an updated controller that we have not seen just yet.
During the CES 2020 briefing, Ryan did give a number of metrics regarding the PlayStation 4. He stated that the PlayStation 4 has sold over 106 million units worldwide. This makes it the second best selling home console ever, coming in after the PlayStation 2, which sold 150 million units during its lifetime. Ryan also revealed that more than 1.15 billion PS4 games have been sold both at retail and digitally since the console released in 2013. He also stated that PS Plus has 38.8 million paying members, while PlayStation Network has more than 103 million monthly active users. Finally, Ryan stated that the PlayStation VR has sold 5 million units since it released in October 2016.
New images of a PlayStation 5 devkit have leaked onto the internet, giving us a look at the upcoming console's controller. It looks much like a DualShock 4, though it seems a little larger. What cannot be seen in the photos are the adaptive triggers that will replace the L2 and R2 buttons. These new triggers will let players feel different resistances. We also cannot see if the controller will feature triggers on its back, much like recent patents suggested. Of course, these photos are of a prototype, so we do not know what the final design will look like at this time.
