Despite turning 15 years old this year, most Fallout fans will probably tell you that Fallout: New Vegas is the peak of the series. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment rather than Bethesda, it has a well-deserved reputation for being the best game in the Fallout series, thanks to its incredible storytelling, vibrant and brutal setting, and immaculate side quests.

The wasteland should be terrifying, not a sandbox for our power fantasy.

One of the people responsible for Fallout: New Vegas' success is lead writer John Gonzalez, who ended up leaving Obsidian back in 2011, shortly after the game's release. Gonzalez not only helped design the main quest of Fallout: New Vegas, but wrote most of the dialogue, invented iconic characters like Mr. House, Benny, and Yes-Man, and wrote some of the game's best side quests, including Come Fly With Me.

Now, a whopping 14 years after leaving Obsidian behind, Gonzalez has revealed via his LinkedIn page that he's returning to the studio as a creative director, which is an announcement that will have immediately sent a wave of excitement down the spine of every single Fallout fan on the planet.
