The PC re-release of The Sims 2 has come out to an underwhelming reception on Steam, with "Mixed" user reviews. The Legacy Collection version of The Sims and The Sims 2 recently rolled out on PC on January 31, 2025.

For more than two decades, The Sims franchise has been an unwavering constant in the simulation genre, raking in millions in revenue for publisher EA. Since the latest entry in the series, 2014's The Sims 4, went free-to-play in 2022, its player-base has grown even bigger in a short period. In October 2024, the American gaming giant revealed that more than 15 million new Sims players had joined the game in the preceding year. While the Maxis-developed game has certainly seen a significant inflow of new players in recent years, there is also a sizable number of longtime fans who form a major part of the game's audience. Recently, fans in the latter category received exciting news as EA re-launched the first two Sims games on modern PCs. However, not everyone playing those classic titles seems to have been won over by the re-release.
