Multiversus game director Tony Huynh took to social media to apologize to fans for the recent game shutdown announcement and to ask for an end to the “threats to harm” against the team. Huynh explained that Player First Games is going through a tough time following the decision to shut down Multiversus and shouldn’t have to put up with threats like that, urging these fans to put a stop to it.
Multiversus is a free-to-play game where players can take on the role of various characters from Warner Bros., the DC Universe, and Cartoon Network to fight against each other. The game had a strong start when it was released in early access, as well as in its subsequent full launch. Unfortunately for Player First Games, the game was not able to maintain the strong engagement it had at first, going downhill fast and costing Warner Bros. over $100 million by late 2024. This situation led the Multiversus developer to announce the game’s shutdown, sparking a wave of backlash from upset players who felt “scammed” by this decision. Now, the game’s director has spoken up to address these concerns.
