New reports on the development of the next major Battlefield game suggest that the new title will incorporate a form of the Battlefield Portal mode. First introduced for Battlefield 2042, Battlefield Portal mode allowed players to create custom games featuring weapons, vehicles, and even maps and mechanics from across the Battlefield franchise.
EA Games is hard at work on the next Battlefield game, though it has yet to publicly announce details about its theme, or even its title. The previous title, Battlefield 2042, was heavily criticized at launch in 2021, suffering from technical issues and unpopular pivots in the game's design. The game's reputation has recovered in the years since thanks to persistent effort and updates from developers at DICE and Criterion Games, but it's time for a new Battlefield title to take up the torch. Now EA seems ready to hold forth more publicly about the game, first by revealing Battlefield Labs, a new version of the Battlefield Community Testing Environment last seen in 2016's Battlefield 1.
The Battlefield franchise has no shortage of iconic maps, and Battlefield 6 should bring at least a few of them back into the spotlight.
