Following the news that the Nintendo Switch has sold over 150 million units, Nintendo is revising its hardware sales forecast.

The company previously forecasted to sell 12.5 million units in the current fiscal year (ending March 31st), a decrease from 13.5 million. However, Nintendo's latest revision now expects to sell only 11 million units by the end of the current fiscal year.

Year-to-year Switch sales are down over 30%, with software sales also down 24%. Nintendo says this is due to the strong performance of two standout games in their prior fiscal year: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Wonder.

While there's indeed truth to that, the reality is that most Nintendo fans have been waiting for the Switch 2 for quite some time now and are content to hold out rather than spend their money now.

"While we think sales of hardware and software are solid for the eighth year, we did not achieve our plan," Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said about their recent earnings report.
