We will be learning a bit more about Animal Crossing: New Horizons later this week.

Nintendo has announced that an Animal Crossing: New Horizons themed Nintendo Direct presentation will be aired this Thursday, February 20th. The Nintendo Direct episode will air at 6:00 a.m. PST / 9:00 a.m. EST. It can be watched on Nintendo's YouTube and Twitch channels, as well as on their website. The episode will be around 25 minutes in length. According to the announcement tweet, the presentation will give us an "in-depth look at Nook Inc.'s Deserted Island Getaway Package."

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will drop players onto a deserted island which they will make their home. The game will feature many of the aspects that gamers have come to expect from Animal Crossing titles, including gardening, fishing, and interacting with NPCs that move onto their land. New Horizons will feature a robust multiplayer system for those who want to share an island with others. Up to eight players with accounts on a single Switch can inhabit the same island, and up to four residents of the island can play together simultaneously.

It was originally announced that Animal Crossing: New Horizons would not support back up save data in order to prevent players from manipulating time in the game and cheating. While the game will not support Nintendo Switch Online's Save Data Cloud Backup, Nintendo did state that they are considering a function to backup save data. This save data backup system will be unique for New Horizons, and will be there in case a player's Nintendo Switch gets stolen, damaged, or lost. Nintendo did not say when gamers could expect such a feature to release, and that they would release more information in the future.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will release for the Nintendo Switch on March 20th. It will be the first full Animal Crossing title in 7 years.
