Square Enix will be scaling back much of Final Fantasy XIV's presence at PAX East.

Square Enix is is the latest company to pull from PAX East due to the coronavirus. The developer has announced that many of the events surrounding Final Fantasy XIV will be cancelled. A panel entitled "The Artwork of Final Fantasy XIV: A look Behind the Screen" will no longer take place, along with a developer signing and photo opp session, and a fan gathering.

"As the community may be aware, COVID-19 (also known as "novel coronavirus") is spreading within the East Asia region" Square Enix stated on the official Final Fantasy XIV website. Taking into consideration the current situation within the region, sadly Square Enix has decided to cancel the PAX East attendance of staff who would be travelling from the Japan offices. This difficult decision was based on our desire to prevent any potential spread of the virus and to prioritize the health and safety of our team and fans."

Despite the cancellation of the Final Fantasy XIV events, Square Enix will still be holding a livestream live from Japan on Saturday, February 29th at 8:00 p.m. EST on the Final Fantasy XIV Twitch channel. There will still be a Final Fantasy XIV booth, where players will be able to take on the new Ruby Weapon boss, and earn a free shirt if they win. Final Fantasy VII Remake and Outriders will still make an appearance at PAX East, with a demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake being available for attendees to try out.

Sony also pulled out of PAX East earlier this week due to the coronavirus. The company was planning on having a playable demo of The Last of Us Part II at the convention, which may not happen now that they have decided to skip the event.
