Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a gruelling game. Set against a medieval European backdrop, developer Warhorse Studios strips away the 'power' in power fantasy, forcing you to grapple with hunger and sleep meters and a rigorous save mechanic that demands crafting with scarce materials, all while your shoes get tattered.
Clothing and armour have durability in KCD2, with different experts being able to repair different components. The more you walk, the more worn down your shoes get, so you need to see a cobbler to get them fixed. You can walk barefoot, sure, but you'll lose out on any bonuses your shoes would have provided.
It's part of the game's wider effort to provide a more realistic fantasy experience, but of course, as with any tedium, modders have already removed it.
