Avowed is out in early access now, letting anyone with the premium edition play a few days ahead of the game's full launch. Many have been using the chance to dive right into Obsidian's latest RPG, and one player has already come across an amusing easter egg.
This all revolves around the companion Kai, who is voiced by Brandon Keener. If that name (and voice) sounds familiar, it's because it probably is - Keener also voiced Garrus in the Mass Effect trilogy. Now, it turns out that Obsidian couldn't resist the urge to throw in a reference to one of Keener's most popular roles, as there's a brief allusion to his romance in Avowed.
This line comes into play when the player and Kai are challenged to a fight. Kai pipes up, saying, "If you're sure. I've got plenty of reach".
Given the shared voice actor, it seems very, very likely that this is a reference to Garrus' line from Mass Effect 2, when he talks about the time he sparred, and then "sparred", with a former fellow soldier of his.
