Shadow game streaming is expanding today to offer much more coverage with a new app and new pricing to attract cloud gamers. If you've not heard of Shadow, it's a PC game streaming app that behaves quite unlike some of the others.
With Shadow, you essentially screen-share with a high-end gaming PC. From there you can access all your favorite apps and services like Steam Epic Games store, and Xbox Game Pass for PC. One of the biggest gripes with Shadow to date was its pricing model, which was too costly for many would-be players.
Today Shadow has revealed something of a relaunch with new pricing and an app that is meant to deliver better than the old system. Now the service offers three tiered plans for its US cloud gaming coverage. On each tier, you gain access to a high-end Windows PC, which you run via the cloud on your own PC regardless of local specs, or on the new app for Android devices including TVs, smartphones, and tablets.
The cheapest plan, Boost, runs $11.99 per month and offers 4K gaming using a GTX 1080 with a 3.4 GHz processor, 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. From there, the specs get better as the prices increase. Ultra runs $24.99 per month and adds Ray Tracing by swapping out the GTX for an RTX 2080, 4 GHz processor, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. The final tier, Ultimate, goes for $39.99 monthly and uses a Titan RTX, a six-core 4 GHz processor, 32GB of RAM, and a terrabyte of storage.
Shadow Boost is now available in all fifty states in the US, with plans to roll out Ultra and Infinite to select users this year before a full rollout of the three-tiered pricing plan.
Shadow is also launching a VR cloud streaming program. The company says they're exploring options to free virtual reality headsets from any hardware constraints. LG has also taken a stake in the company and in the future LG products will integrate Shadow directly into them. You can check out more about Shadow at its official website.
