Nintendo appears to be phasing out one of its most popular promotions, as Game Vouchers won’t be compatible with Switch 2 exclusives.
Nintendo Game Vouchers is a system where players can pay a cheaper amount to redeem two games from the Eshop. This is cheaper than buying both games at their full retail price, so it’s great for fans of Nintendo exclusives.
While the list of compatible Game Voucher titles mostly consists of Nintendo games, it does have a few made by third-party studios, including PlatinumGames and Square Enix. It also has most of the Pokemon games.
The Game Voucher system is being phased out, as a post on Nintendo’s official website has confirmed that they cannot be redeemed with Switch 2 exclusives.
Nintendo Game Vouchers Aren’t Cross-Gen
The exact wording says that they “cannot be redeemed for games exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 system.” This means that titles releasing for both systems should still be redeemable, with Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A being likely candidates.
However, the upcoming next entry in the Mario Kart series that was teased in the first Switch 2 trailer isn’t going to be part of the promotion.
