An ambitious fan project to recreate The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is nearly ready to release after 13 years in development. Both Oblivion and Skyrim are part of the Elder Scrolls franchise, and both stand as iconic moments in the series' history. But the two games ran on different engines, making them look and feel drastically different.
The team of volunteer developers working on the huge project shared an update about their passion project in a developer Q&A and gameplay demo on the Rebelzize YouTube channel (as spotted by TweakTown). During the showcase, they stated that the project, which had been ongoing since 2012, is finally almost ready to be released for players to enjoy. The team states: "We would like to share today that Skyblivion is in a state where we can promise a 2025 release at the latest."
Although the two games were released only five years apart—Oblivion came out in 2006 and Skyrim in 2011—the latter runs on Bethesda's Creation Engine, which provided huge graphical improvements over the more outdated Gamebryo engine of the former.
