Game Science Dev Says 30% of Black Myth Wukong Sales Aren't From China

One of last year's highest-selling games, Black Myth Wukong, was made by Chinese studio Game Science. The game was based on the Chinese myth "Journey to the West," so it's natural to think that the majority of the people who bought it are from China.

However, Game Science has revealed that a significant chunk of it didn't come from the country.

Black Myth Wukong Finds An Audience Outside Of China

Speaking at the West Lake Art Forum held at the School of Animation and Games of the China Academy of Art (via 80 Level), Game Science co-founder and Art Director Yang Qi mentioned that 30% of the game's player base is from outside China. However, no breakdown on how many are from PC and PS5 was given.

This figure surprised Game Science, given that foreign players might not be familiar with or have any connection with the game's story. According to Qi, even if players don't understand Wukong's design, style, and story, they can appreciate the core content and how the game resonates with common experiences.
