Battlefield Labs Starts This Month, But Players Will Be Severely Limited

The time to fire up the Battlefield theme song in a loop draws ever nearer, but for a select group of people, the fun already starts this week.

MP1st obtained a copy of a Battlefield Labs invitation email urging the chosen players to RSVP by midnight today.

This is the first confirmed session of EA's public playtesting program, which the publishing giant hopes will help bring the Battlefield franchise back on track after over a decade of mediocrity in the struggle against Call of Duty.

According to the email, players will get to "test concepts and mechanics" during the upcoming play test event, which will reportedly take place on March 7.

Electronic Arts and the Battlefield development team, now split between multiple studios, have not commented publicly on the specifics of this week's test session. The expectation is that players will have limited exposure to the new game, with an overall duration of around two hours of play time.

This measured approach to introducing the upcoming Battlefield sequel to the community is in line with EA's delicate handling of the franchise after a series of poor releases.
