While rumors continue to swirl about a Gears of War Collection launching on PlayStation 5, though without any PvP multiplayer, much to the disappointment of fans, it appears that, at one point, a remaster of Gears of War 2, similar to Gears of War Ultimate Edition, was in the works.

Taking to Twitter, Ayi Sanchez, currently an artist at Valve, shared a small glimpse at some test material that he had been working on for a potential remaster of the 2008 title. According to Sanchez, that work took place 10 years ago, dating the concept of a Gears of War 2 Remaster to 2015.
In several follow-up tweets, a separate artist, Giuseppe Navarria, shared that it was a potential project for Splash Damage Studio, though shortly after helping bring the Ultimate Edition multiplayer, the team was shifted to Gears 4.
