It’s almost time to step foot onto Arrakis with fellow Dune-heads with the highly anticipated release of Dune: Awakening on May 20, 2025, with some players having to wait less than others thanks to five whole days of “Advanced Access” for both Deluxe & Ultimate Edition buyers.

And it seems the advanced access has more practical reasons to exist as well:

Director Joel Bylos confirmed on Funcom’s YouTube channel that the live service game will not have a paid subscription service model like World of Warcraft.

After purchasing the base game for US$50, you can expect plenty of free updates headed your way throughout its lifespan.

However, the game will also receive optional paid DLC alongside its free updates, available either individually or through a Season Pass.

While it's no surprise that a live service game needs to make money, this approach gives players more flexibility in how they engage with the game's content and allows you to choose which DLCs suit your playstyle.
