Square Enix has created a website for Final Fantasy 9’s 25th anniversary featuring an announcement for a prequel book, reigniting hope that the rumors of a remake that have been circulating for years are accurate and that the game will be announced this year.
The Final Fantasy 9 remake rumors started all the way back in 2021 when a list of games was pulled from Nvidia GeForce, spoiling the existence of titles long before they were announced. There are still two big holdouts from this list that have yet to appear, as the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster and the remake of Final Fantasy 9 are nowhere to be seen.
As 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 9, Square Enix has launched a special website that is promoting new merchandise for the occasion, including toys and jewelry. Naturally, fans think that all this effort is leading to the remake’s announcement this summer.
