Blizzard Entertainment has supposedly received several pitches for a brand-new StarCraft game from multiple Korean developers, in an attempt to revive the beloved science-fiction IP for modern gamers. That being said, the StarCraft franchise has been in the public eye recently, with StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection joining Xbox Game Pass, alongside an announced crossover with the card game Hearthstone.
The first entry in the military series was released in 1998, paving the way for a rich media franchise spanning novelizations, a popular board game, and several follow-up video games. StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty harbored several iconic characters, including Sarah Kerrigan, Jim Raynor, and Artanis, and the successor was followed by Heart of the Swarm, Legacy of the Void, and Nova Covert Ops, before the remastered version was released in 2017.
Helldivers 2’s adaptable formula is a compelling reason to expand the franchise in the RTS genre, assuming it can learn the hard lessons of Starcraft.
