It seems that The Last of Us Part II will sell strong despite the game's plot being spoiled earlier this year.

In an interview with CNET, PlayStation head Jim Ryan revealed that preorders for The Last of Us Part II seem to not have been affected by story leaks from earlier this year. The game's plot was leaked onto the internet this past April. Despite that, Ryan states that the game is selling strong. As an example, he says that Sony has tallied more preorders in Europe for Naughty Dog's upcoming title than it did for Marvel's Spider-Man at the same point before its release. The title was considered to be one of the best games of 2018.

Ryan also stated that he feels that The Last of Us Part II will "be a defining game for this generation." He says that the version of the game coming out later this month will run on the PlayStation 5 with no issue, despite there being no plans to bring the title to Sony's upcoming console when it releases this holiday season.

The Last of Us Part II was meant to release last month, but was delayed due to complications caused by COVID-19. When the game was given a June release date, another PlayStation 4 exclusive, Ghost of Tsushima, was pushed back to July in order to make room for Naughty Dog's title.

It has been confirmed by director Neil Druckmann that players will miss some of the game's content during their first run of the game. There seems to be some story elements that cancel out others, which has led to speculation that there may be an element of player choice in the upcoming title.

The Last of Us Part II will release for the PlayStation 4 on June 19th. The review embargo for the game will drop on June 12th, so stay tuned to OpenCritic to see how the game fares when reviews are published.
