Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is getting remastered. That news comes ahead of an official reveal thanks to an early Microsoft Store listing. The official title will be Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning and the Microsoft Store page signals a launch on August 18.
Kingdoms of Amalur originally launched in 2012 as the debut title from 38 Studios, owned and operated by once Red Sox legend and more recent social media villain Curt Schilling. The store listing includes information on what the game's update includes, like all of the original DLC as well as "“improved graphical fidelity” and “refined gameplay.”
The game was originally published by EA but quickly saw financial trouble for the newly created 38 Studios and co-developer Big Huge Games. Schilling's leadership led to a 75 million dollar loan from the state of Rhode Island disappearing alongside another 50 million from Schilling's own accounts. In the end, the game undersold despite decent review scores. Some of the creators were never paid their remaining two paychecks due to the mismanagement.
The state bought the rights to the game and later sold it to THQ Nordic, a constant buyer of dormant IP. It is THQ Nordic who is re-releasing the game in 2020, and thus none of the original creators will be able to profit from the game, which is a sad note to this remaster in all cases except for one.
We can expect an official reveal soon but the store page is not regarded as anything but entirely real.
