Summer Games Done Quick will be a fully online event this year.

On the Games Done Quick site, it was announced that this year's Summer Games Done Quick event will be an online affair. The decision to make the event online only came from the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Those participating in the event will do their speedruns from the safety of their own homes.

"Games Done Quick has been actively monitoring the situation surrounding COVID-19," the event's website states. "As we prioritize the health and safety of everyone who attends GDQ events, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the on-site portion of Summer Games Done Quick 2020 and instead proceed with an online-only event, called Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online.

"Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online will not feature a live event in Minnesota. Instead, we will move the event to online-only, broadcasting the event from our studio with participants performing speedruns from the safety of their homes."

This year Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online will be benefiting Doctors Without Borders. The event will take place from August 16th-23rd, and will start at 11:00 a.m. EST. The speedruns can be viewed at the events Twitch channel. Those who wish to take part in the event, from speedrunners to volunteers, and check the official Games Done Quick site for more information.

Games Done Quick is a series of charity video game marathons that raise money for various causes, including Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The GDQ events feature high-level gameplay by speedrunners as they raise money for the various foundations that are supported. GDQ has already raised over $22.3 million for charity. After Summer Games Done Quick 2020 Online, the next GDQ event will be Awesome Games Done Quick, which will take place in January of 2021.
