With A Minecraft Movie blazing through to have the biggest opening day ever for a video game movie, and being predicted for an opening weekend return of upwards of $110 million, all despite rather ugly reviews from critics, it has people wondering what the next big video game adaptation could be.
There's not going to be any Sonic-style tweaking this time.
If you were hoping for it to be Fortnite, then think again. That's because Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney threw some cold water at a potential adaptation, casting doubt on whether the popular live-service game will ever hit the silver screen.
In a reply to a post sharing word from Twitter influencer and mostly reliable source for movie news, DanielRPK, Sweeney unequivocally put any rumors to bed.
Sweeney was responding to a now-deleted post that suggested that a Fortnite movie could be the next big adaptation, though some studios had passed on the opportunity to produce it.
"You just know Fortnite is next. There was already talk of a Fortnite movie, but some studios passed on it. That’s obviously gonna change now," DanielRPK wrote in his original post that was then aggregated.
