The Nintendo Switch 2 continues the company’s trend of not including a feature that is present in pretty much every modern console and PC gaming platform, as the company has confirmed that achievements won’t be part of the new hardware.
The PS3/Xbox 360 era was when achievements began a big part of gaming, where completing tasks was rewarded by the system itself with little notifications. Manage to beat Malenia in Elden Ring or donate to the Dog Shrine in Undertale? The system will give you a little achievement to mark your victory.
Nintendo has never included achievements on a system level, though some games do feature them within their own framework. This trend is continuing into the Nintendo Switch 2 era, as Bill Trinen, Nintendo’s Vice President of Player and Product Experience, has told Polygon that the new system won’t include achievements.
