The Pokemon Company is looking to donate a large sum of money to charity soon.
On Twitter, The Pokemon Company announced that they will be donating a minimum of $5 million to nonprofit organizations around the world. They stated that they will donate the money after the upcoming Pokemon GO Fest. The event will take place in July.
"Following the Pokemon GO Fest 2020, The Pokemon Company group is joining its partners at Niantic and will also be donating a minimum of $5 million to nonprofit organizations around the world," the tweet stated.
"The Pokemon Company group donations will go toward improving the lives of children with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
"In our ongoing commitment to the Black community, this will include organizations supporting education and mentorship opportunities for Black Children."
The Pokemon Company's announcement that they will be making their donations comes a week after Pokemon GO developer Niantic promised to donate at least $5 million of the Pokemon GO Fest 2020's ticket sales. They stated that half of the proceeds will go to funding new projects from Black gaming and AR creators with the ultimate goal of increasing content that will help represent a more diverse view of the world. The other half of the money that is donated will go to nonprofit organizations that are helping local communities rebuild. An additional $100,000 will be donated to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, which supports Black trans people.
Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS devices. The Pokemon GO Fest 2020 will take place on July 25th and 26th. For the first time in the history of the Pokemon GO Fest, those who purchase tickets for the event will be able to participate in both days.
