The second DLC expansion for Remedy's award-winning Control is going according to schedule, Remedy promised.

The expansion, titled "AWE," was revealed with a vague launch window of 2020, so it's difficult to know when to expect the DLC to arrive, but according to Remedy's community manager Vida Starčević on Reddit,  AWE is on track even as working from home has been challenging for the team.

In a prepared statement to fans, Starčević also revealed that a free update will come alongside the launch of AWE later this year which will add checkpoints to some boss battles, move some fast travel locations to better aid players exploring The Oldest House, and rebalance some enemy encounters.

In addition, the game on PC will get additional new features with the update, but Starčević said the team will reveal more on that as they approach the AWE launch.

It was also recently revealed that Control will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X in the future.

Spoilers for Control follow.

Control's second expansion, AWE, is a bit of a play on words. In-universe, it literally stands for Altered World Event, the focus of investigations from the fictional Federal Bureau of Control. But this second expansion explores how the events of Remedy's 2010 thriller Alan Wake are themselves an altered world event, so one could read the title as "Alan Wake expansion" as well. Knowing Remedy, it's a deliberate pun.

Spoilers end

Control won many awards following its launch last August and has since released one expansion, "The Foundation," on Epic Games Store and PS4. It arrives on Xbox on june 25 after a timed-exclusivity window for PS4 among consoles. It's expected, though not confirmed, that it will come to Steam following a year of exclusivity, which would expire at the end of August.
