Ex-Blizzard President Warns Diablo 4 Is Heading Nowhere

Blizzard Entertainment released Diablo 4’s long-awaited 2025 roadmap this week, but instead of reigniting hope, it lit a match under a pile of long-standing frustrations for a fractured community.

Even a former Blizzard president isn’t convinced the studio knows what it’s doing anymore.

Mike Ybarra, who served as Blizzard’s president until early 2024, didn’t mince words on X when he laid out his thoughts on the game’s future. He called out the studio’s rinse-and-repeat seasonal cycle, questioned the painfully slow expansion schedule, and said the quiet part out loud:

That’s not just a spicy quote. It’s a direct hit to the credibility of Blizzard’s live-service strategy from someone who was running the ship less than a year ago.

Diablo IV Roadmap Without Direction?

The roadmap itself isn’t devoid of content. Blizzard teased three new seasons, a return of Belial, new Horde updates, and two mysterious IP collaborations. There’s also the long-awaited keyboard and mouse support for consoles.

But the problem isn’t the quantity of updates. It’s the sense that Blizzard still doesn’t understand what Diablo 4 needs to survive.
