The Elder Scrolls Online fans have begged for an option to swap classes for over a decade now, as whenever a new skill tree is added, like Necromancer or Warden, you need to start from scratch to experience the latest content. Sacrificing that much progress in an MMO is daunting, but finally, there's a solution.
As announced in the first-ever ESO Direct, Zenimax Online is finally adding subclasses, allowing you to mix and match skills to create entirely new, previously impossible builds without having to reroll your character. How this works is simple: you can swap two of your classes' Skill Lines with any of those from the six other classes to form unique hybrids.
Unlocking subclasses is incredibly easy. There's no questline to follow or a new faction to join, just one requirement — reach level 50.
Once you do, subclasses will be made available account-wide, meaning that you can use them on old and new characters, just as you would Champion Points. This will no doubt massively shake up the meta, as entirely new synergies will be made possible for the first time in the game's 11-year history, so it'll be fascinating to see how the community responds...
