Crossfire X Beta Starts for Xbox Insiders Today, Other Xbox Players This Week

on | OpenCritic

Crossfire X is the western release of one of the world's biggest games, and starting today, select players can begin playing it.

Select players in the Xbox Insider program can access the beta from the Insider app on their consoles. It'll run you a little over 5 GB but is otherwise totally free in closed beta. The beta will slowly allow more players to join over the next few days until the beta opens to all Xbox users on June 25. The beta then ends for all players on June 28 at 9 pm Pacific.

During the beta, players will have access to three multiplayer modes. Spectre Mode cloaks one team in invisibility with minimal weapons and tasks them with planting a bomb while the other team tries to eliminate them largely using audio cues to track them. Team Match is one of Crossfire's most popular modes and is a 4v4 Search and Destroy-style mode. Point Capture, though it may sound like Domination, is actually the game's deathmatch mode.

The multiplayer for Crossfire X is being developed by Smilegate West, an offshoot of the team responsible for making Crossfire one of the most popular shooters in the world. The series has never before made much noise in the west, but Xbox and the involved studios are hoping this is a new beginning.

To aid them in that quest, the single-player story mode is being handled by a different studio, none other than Remedy, who last year took home dozens of awards for its sci-fi shooter, Control. Remedy also previously worked on major shooter titles such as Alan Wake, Max Payne, and Quantum Break.

According to Xbox, Crossfire X will launch later in 2020.
